The CIS Model

Level One

Level One resources and services are widely accessible to any students at a CIS site and typically have short-term durations of a few hours or days.  Students do not need to be enrolled in a specific CIS initiative to receive these resources and services but simply need to be members of the school population at large.  Level One resources and services are often provided or brokered to help address school-wide needs or to build and reinforce student assets.  Some examples of these types of resources and services include providing clothing and school supplies, coordinating school-wide events such as career fairs, bringing in health care professionals to conduct annual screenings and providing short-term counseling in crisis situations.

Level Two

Unlike Level One resources and services, which virtually any students may receive, Level Two resources and services are targeted for specific students who are enrolled in a CIS initiative, with identified risk factors such as poor academic performance, poor attendance, or frequent misbehavior.  These resources and services are sustained interventions lasting several weeks, months.  CIS sites usually track the Level Two resources and services that targeted students receive and the progress they make towards accomplishing individualized goals or outcomes.  Some examples of these long-term services include tutoring, mentoring, and case management.
