Mission

young girlCommunities In Schools (CIS) is the nation’s leading community-based organization helping kids stay in school and prepare for life.

For 30 years nationally and over 14 years in Delaware, CIS has championed the connection of needed resources with schools.

By bringing caring adults into the schools to address children’s unmet needs, CIS provides the link between educators and the community.

The result: Teachers are free to teach, and students—many in jeopardy of dropping out—finally have the opportunity to focus on learning.

It's relationships, not programs, that change children. A great program simply creates the environment for healthy relationships to form between adults and children. Young people thrive when adults care about them on a one-to-one level, and when they also have a sense of belonging to a caring community. -- Bill Milliken, founder and vice chairman of Communities In Schools, author of Tough Love and The Last Dropout
