Under the auspices of Connecting Generations and in partnership with Communities in Schools, AmeriCorps members will be primarily responsible for coordinating mentor programming at identified schools and community sites in Dover and New Castle County, Delaware. In addition, members will be responsible for connecting mentees with community and school services and programs. Members will also identify community resources and establish a school wide community service activity. Through the Youth Ambassadors program AmeriCorps members will work between October 1, 2010 and August 31, 2011 at identified schools and community sites. AmeriCorps members will play a vital role in ensuring that mentor programming is effectively established, or continue to develop a program that is already in existence. Members will ensure the mentoring programs follow the Elements of Effective Practice of MENTOR. They will also ensure that mentees in their identified schools and community sites are connected with academic, physical and/or social services needed to be successful. To provide these services members will be required to attend on-going training sessions and participate in service activities including mentoring.

Member Duties : Recruit, support, retain mentors for site Ensure mentors are screened, interviewed, trained Be an ambassador and advocate for mentoring program, respond to all program related questions Maintain accurate records (monthly reports, timesheets, mentor and mentee files) Coordinate mentoring schedule, identify student mentees Match mentoring pairs Ensure mentees have all required documents Schedule ongoing meetings with mentors/mentees Conduct mentor orientations, program evaluations, periodic recognition of mentors and other volunteers(e.g. end-of-year party with mentees; special events) Identify community resources and build partnerships with the school to provide additional services Support all program related staff in duties as appropriate and necessary Consult with supervisor if you have any ideas, issues, or concerns Respect confidentiality of clients, staff, and AmeriCorps members Report any accidents, illness, or inappropriate behavior to your site and/or program supervisor
