ON TRACK…A College and Life Skills Course
Collaboration with Delaware Technical and Community College in 1995
- Provide opportunity to students to pursue life skills and college opportunities
- Curriculum designed and taught by Delaware Tech instructors and counselors
- Students earn college credit and get introduced to college opportunities
- CISDE staff selects students based on needs with consultation with programs such as Education Talent Search, Upward Bound and other local school initiatives
- Students are case managed by CISDE staff in the completion of instruction, tasks and duties as it relates to On Track
Curriculum:
ON TRACK I
Purpose: This course is designed to enhance student life skills knowledge, improve academic skill and raise students awareness of post-secondary opportunities.
- Differences between college/post-secondary life and high school
- College/after high school planning and development
- Critical thinking
- Career assessment and research
- Job skill development
ON TRACK II
Purpose:Build peer relationships and leadership skills. Develop good listening and sharing skills to cope with life challenges.
- Student self awareness and skill development
- Non-verbal communication skill development
- Developing listening skills
- Developing empathy skills
- The basics of mentoring, tutoring and academic support
ON TRACK III
Purpose: Some topics include how to find financial assistance for higher education, identify campus resources and how to cope with stress and do time management. Also, a series of cross cultural workshops will be offered integrating International and American student groups focusing on issues of understanding, diversity, exploring U.S. society and value differences and similarities.
