Communities In Schools:

A Resource and Service Broker for Delaware Students, Families and Schools

Communities In Schools (CIS) is the nation’s leading community-based organization helping kids stay in school and prepare for life. For 30 years nationally and over 14 years in Delaware, CIS has championed the connection of needed resources with schools. We’re located in six area school districts in Delaware representing a mixture of rural, suburban and urban schools. By bringing caring adults into the schools to address children’s unmet needs, CIS provides the link between educators and the community.

The result: Teachers are free to teach, and students—many in jeopardy of dropping out—finally have the opportunity to focus on learning.

Communities In Schools is an innovator in tackling the dropout problem in America. We work with those who are the most disenfranchised in our society to remove barriers to school success. We have honed the concept of school-based, integrated student support services by mobilizing resources that already exist in the community and bringing them into schools to address specific, identified needs such as academic enrichment, mentoring and parental involvement. Our model is the most effective, sustainable and scalable solution to the dropout problem that exists.
